Wanna VanCleve, 85, died Aug. 6, 2012 at her home in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She was born in Malden, Mo. Feb.12, 1927. Wanna was a longtime resident of Poplar Bluff and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a founding charter member of Temple Baptist where she was accomplished at playing the organ and piano and then in later years at First Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and enjoyed her music, reading, being with family and friends, and her dog. She married John T. VanCleve May 23, 1953 in Malden, Mo. He preceded her in death Aug. 8, 1996. Also preceding her, were her parents Wade and Lillie Thornton, and one son; Wade VanCleve. Surviving are one son; Tom VanCleve and wife Yvonne and one daughter; Patricia Ann Sparks, all of Poplar Bluff, two brothers; Wilbur and wife Patty Thornton of Poplar Bluff and William and wife Jean Thornton of Las Vegas, Nv.; and one grandchild; Cassie Lee VanCleve of Poplar Bluff, who was her shining star. Visitation will be Thursday at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Steve Patterson will officiate. In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to the Colon Cancer Foundation.
