Paul W. Erwin, 89, of Cape Girardeau, Mo. died Friday, Nov. 20, 2015 at the Missouri Veteran's Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born in Tennessee to the late Joseph Oscar Erwin and Tynie Maybell McGerity. He was a long time resident of Poplar Bluff, Mo. He was a member of the Heritage Apostolic Church. Paul married Lessie Scott in Piggott, Ar. April 17, 1948. She preceded him in death April 24, 2003. Paul served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After his service he worked as a welder and pipefitter. He enjoyed going to yard sales and to the sale barn. He is survived by two daughters, Patricia Martin of Valley Park, Mo. and Paula Vernell Dowd of Glenallen, Mo.; one brother, Max Erwin of Paris, Tn.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were one son, Raymond Earl Erwin; two brothers, Ray Erwin and Carl Erwin; and four sisters, Arlie May DePriest, Martha Jean Campbell, Rae Cheek and Nola Carter. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home Chapel followed by the funeral service at 11:00 A.M. The Rev. Ivan Dowd will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele, Mo. at 2:00 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Missouri Veteran's Home, Hospice Unit, 2400 Veteran's Memorial Dr., Cape Girardeau, Mo. 63701.
