Neva V. Blackwell

Neva V. Blackwell, 104, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. died Thursday, May 15, 2014. She was born July 9, 1909 in rural Williamsville area. She attended the one room Black River School near Keener thru 8th grade, then came to Poplar Bluff where she attended one year of high school. She joined the First Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff in 1947. In 1932, she married Oren Blackwell who was from Piedmont. They made their home in Poplar Bluff. She had various jobs over the years, the most recent job which she enjoyed very much was being assistant to the dentist, Dr. Bob Casey. She retired from that job. Her hobbies in earlier years included cooking and sewing. She partly attributes her longevity to staying active and healthy eating habits...cooking and eating a lot fresh fruits and vegetables and doing everything her doctor told her to do. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lennis Hedspeth, and one sister Iva Kearbey. There will be a graveside service, May 24, 2014, at 10:30 A.M. at City Cemetery. Dr. William Vail will officiate.
