Marlene Shepherd

Marlene Shepherd, 78, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. died Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. She was born June 26, 1937 in Kansas City, Mo. to the late Boyd Burton and Maxine Johnson Burton. She spent most of her childhood in Kansas City and Poplar, Mo. She was a member of the Twin Springs Baptist Church. Marlene was formerly married to Wayne Shepherd of Lebanon, Mo. He survives. She was a retired fifth grade school teacher. Marlene liked to read western books, collect red bird figurines, and when younger played tennis and liked water skiing. She enjoyed the company of her miniature Doberman pincher. She is survived by one son, Michael Shepherd of New York: two daughters, Debbie Edwards of Bolivar, Mo. and Barbara Alumbaugh of Park City, Kansas; four brothers, Lee Burton of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Robert Burton of Summerville, So. Carolina, Boyd Burton of Ballwin, Mo. and Sid Burton of Mesa, Az.; two sisters, Mary Richards of Sullivan, Mo. and Susan Bounds of Pocahontas, Ar.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Burton and Wade Burton; and one sister, Donna Chestnut. A memorial service will be Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Twin Springs Baptist Church at 5 P.M. The Rev. Rodger Mayo will be officiating.
