Helen Porter Williams, 87, of Dexter, Mo. left this world on March 21, 2014 of natural causes. She was born in Poplar Bluff, Mo. February 25, 1927 to the late Frank and Ellen Porter. She was a longtime resident of Poplar Bluff. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff and later attended New Bethel General Baptist Church in Dexter. She retired from the Florsheim Shoe Co., where she was known as "Big Helen". Later, she worked as a resident guardian with the Butler County Juvenile Detention Center and was known as "Grandma". Helen enjoyed exercise classes at 'Curves' in Poplar Bluff with her many wonderful friends. She enjoyed cooking for family holidays and children of all ages, especially babies and toddlers. She is survived by her children, Mary Ellen Collier of Dexter, Mo. and Leonard Franklin & Doris (Lawrence) Williams, of Shell Beach, Ca.; grandchildren, Frankie Helen (McFall) & Darren Spannaus, of Phoenix, Az.; Kimi Rossomando, Vanessa Williams and Tim Williams; two great grandchildren, Dane Spannaus and Alex Williams; extended family, Shelley (Edwards) and Brian McClintock and their families of Dexter, Mo.; and many nieces and nephews and close friends. Visitation will be Monday, Mar. 24, 2014 from 9-11 AM. at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home Chapel followed by the funeral service at 11 AM. Rev. Dean Williams will officiate. Burial will be at City Cemetery in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
