Elizabeth Cunningham Hyde Nutter, 78 years of age, went home to be with the Lord on January 1, 2025.
Born in Montgomery, Alabama, Beth lived a full and adventurous life. She was a life-long member of Holy Cross Episcopal Church. During high school she was a talented trumpeter, and she played piano until she could no longer see the music. Beth graduated from Poplar Bluff High School in 1964 then attended southern Baptist College in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. She transferred to Arkansas State University in Jonesboro before she married James (Jim) Robert Nutter in December 1966. The couple moved to Detroit, Michigan where Jim began his career with General Motors. Beth became an active mother and community member during the 32 years they lived there. She taught piano at local elementary schools and out of her home. Beth was a girl scout leader for 10 years and was active in city politics. She encouraged her children to participate in sports, music, dance, scouts, and Masonic youth organizations. She was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star at Trenton Lodge and was known as Mom Nutter to DeMolay boys and Rainbow Girls state-wide. Her sense of humor and warmth made her a favorite at gatherings and a friend to many.
After retirement Beth and Jim moved back to their hometown where they were able to live the rest of their lives in Beth’s childhood home. She enjoyed collecting and displaying antiques and family heirlooms. Gardening was a passion of hers that brought her great joy. She especially cherished her time with her children and grandchildren. She loved making birthdays and holidays spectacular for her family. Beth loved God and enjoyed sharing her faith with others.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Betty Hyde of Poplar Bluff; and her husband Jim Nutter. She is survived by her daughter Jeannette Davis, son-in-law Matt and their children Carson, Parker and Wyndser Davis of Poplar Bluff, as well as her son James (Jay) Nutter and his sons James (Jimmy) and Nicholas Nutter of Parrish, FL.
