Donnell M. Johnson, 75, of Poplar Bluff, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2015 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center. He was born May 8, 1939 to the late Frank Johnson and Irma Whitener Johnson in Gravelton, Mo. Donnell was a long time resident of Poplar Bluff. He was a member of the First General Baptist Church. He married Gerri Allison Oct. 1, 1960. She preceded him in death. Before retiring, Donnell was a foreman for a bridge construction company. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed collecting rocks, and driving race cars in his younger days. He was a member of the Labor Union Local 1104. He is survived by one son, James Donnell Johnson and wife Kimberly; one daughter, Kim Johnson, two grandsons Dusty Johnson and wife Erica, Nathan Rice and wife Selia; one granddaughter Katie Rice and two great-grandchildren, Beckett and Delaney Johnson, all of Poplar Bluff. Visitation well be 10 AM, Saturday, at the First General Baptist Church on North Main St. The funeral service will follow at 11 AM at the church. Rev. Dick Murray will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home.
