Donald Glenn Stone, 89, of Poplar Bluff, went to live eternally with his Savior on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, with his family by his side. Visitation will be from 10AM-12PM on Saturday, October 22, 2022, at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home, with service to follow at noon. Elder Robert Duckett will officiate, and the burial will be at Memorial Gardens with full military honors. The family requests Cardinal attire and, in lieu of flowers, donations to Swift Creek Residential Care Facility. There will be a collection station at the service.
The Heavenly Band sounded a little sweeter at 5:05 PM on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, when Donald Stone, 89, was ushered in as the new drummer, guitarist, and harmonica player. He was surrounded by his children as he left this life and was greeted by his Savior in life eternal.
He was born March 5, 1933, in Butler County, to the late Joseph Manford Stone and Ruby Mae (Montgomery) Stone. He was a member of the Black Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Don served in the Army during the Korean War as a tank mechanic. He was a professional tinkerer working on autos, RVs, lawnmowers and TVs. He delivered pizza for many years at Domino’s where he was affectionately known as “Uncle.” Don was musically talented, having played in several bands on the drums, guitar, and harmonica.
June 11, 1955, he married Shirley Edith Walker in Butler County. She preceded him in death on January 22, 2011. They are survived by three children; Dennis (Cindy) Stone of; Annaville, TX, Scott (Linda) Stone of Harviell, MO and Jo-Andrea (Robert) Duckett of Poplar Bluff; nine grandchildren, Ernest Hinojosa, Elissa DeLeon, and Dennis Stone, Jr., all of Texas, Katreena Stone-Lopez of Oklahoma, Kassie Straub, of Paragould, Arkansas, Scotty Lee Stone, Matthew Rushin, and Aimee Kudrna, all of Missouri, Seth and Caleb Duckett of Alaska, 21 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother, Clyde Stone, and a special friend Mildred Alford.
