Dacey L. Miller, Sr

Dacey L. Miller, Sr. passed away in his home in Springfield, MO, on November 5, 2012, at the age of 82 years. He was born on November 5, 1930, to Pansy and Walter Miller in Powe, MO. His parents preceded him in death. Dacey attended Bernie Mo High School where he was an outstanding basketball player. He attended Missouri Baptist Junior College in Poplar Bluff, Mo, and graduated from Arkansas State University with a B.S. in Education. He also did graduate work at Southeast Missouri State University. Dacey was a public school teacher and administrator for 42 years at the Fisk-Rombauer ( Twin Rivers) school district and at the Bloomfield R-14 school system. At the time of his retirement, he was the Director of Special Services for the North Stoddard County Co-op. Dacey was a well-known basketball official in Southeast Missouri. He also served in the Missouri National Guard for 23 years in Poplar Bluff, Mo, where he retired as Staff-sergeant and First Sergeant. Dacey was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association. At the time of his passing, he had been a member of the Second Baptist Church, Springfield, Mo, for 14 years. Previously, he had belonged to the First Baptist Church, Poplar Bluff where he had made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ in 1952. He also was a member of the First Baptist Church, Bloomfield, Mo, for 27 years. On November 23, 1952, Shirley Flanakin and Dacey were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Poplar Bluff. The ceremony was conducted by the Reverend C.B. Pillow. On November 23, 2012, Dacey and Shirley would have been married 60 years; she survives. Dacey also is survived by three children, Dr. Stephanie Ann Miller of Bolivar, Mo, Dr. Dace Lee Miller, M.D. and his wife Nancy, of Springfield, Mo, and Thomas L. Miller, of West Palm Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Abby Miller, Dack Miller, and Andrew Miller, all of Springfield, Mo; and two sisters, Patricia Rushing and Bobbie Becking of Bernie, Mo. He was preceded in death by a sister, Vada McClard; and an infant brother, Dawsey Miller.
