Charles A. Von Gruenigen, also known as Chuck or Charlie, passed away on December 31, 2023, at the age of 82 in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Born on May 3, 1941, in Bloomington, Illinois, Charlie was a beloved member of his community.
Charlie was a avid fisherman who found solace and joy in spending time camping with friends and family. He also enjoyed the occasional trip to the casino and cherished moments spent socializing with loved ones over a few drinks.
From 1958 to 1961, Charlie proudly served as a Marine, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to his country. His military associations were an integral part of his life and shaped his character.
Professionally, Charlie was a Union wireman for Local 309, where he made significant contributions throughout his career. His commitment and work ethic were highly regarded by his colleagues and peers.
Charlie is survived by his daughter Teresa (Dave) Rodgers of Belleville, Illinois; his son Charles (Tina) Von Gruenigen of O'Fallon, Illinois; his daughter Pam (Charles) Williams of Poplar Bluff; his first wife Judy (Klaus) Von Gruenigen of Poplar Bluff; granddaughter Tara (Kenneth) Sculley of Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan; his brother-in-law Jose Santacruz; niece Rita Santacruz; two nephews David and Pepe Santacruz all of Florida. He is preceded in death by his father Harry Von Gruenigen and mother Lillian (Key) Singleton; his wife Sherian (Pitra) Von Gruenigen; and his sister Theldra Santacruz.
Per his request, no services will be held to commemorate Charlie's life. However, in honor of his memory, contributions can be made to Pets for Partners in Edwardsville, Illinois or Five Acres Animal Shelter in St. Charles, Missouri. These organizations align with Charlie's passion for supporting animal welfare causes.
Charles A Von Gruenigen will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the pleasure of knowing him. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to those who mourn his loss.
