Arvie Smith

Arvie E. Smith, 78, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Sunday June 16, 2013. He was born July 28, 1934. He was a long time resident of Poplar Bluff, Mo. Arvie was a member of the Second Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting. Before retiring, Mr. Smith had worked as a carpenter for Greer Construction. He served in the Marine Corp during the Korean War. Arvie married Shirley Ann Rayfield November 15, 1954 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Gary Dale Smith of Lexington, Tn. and Michael Ernest Smith of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two sisters, Helen Dickens of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and Carolyn McFadden of Clarkton, Mo.; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Arvie was preceded in death by his parents, John L. Smith and Anna Belle Abrahms Smith; one daughter, Tammy Marie Smith; two brothers, Donald Smith and Lee Smith Visitation will be Wednesday June 19, 2013 at 10 to 11 a.m. at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home Chapel, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Gary Smith will officiate. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery.
