Althea (Fowler) Downs

Althea Darlene Downs, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister, peacefully departed this life at the age of 64 on Thursday January 11, 2024. She was surrounded by her family, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff MO.

Born on January 29, 1959 in Pocahontas AR. Althea spent most of early work life as a cook in restaurants managed by her parents and spent several years as a homemaker for Butler County toward the end of her working years.

Althea enjoyed fishing, crocheting, and watching cooking shows on TV. She also enjoyed time with her grandchildren.

Althea was the beloved daughter of Ernest and Margaret Fowler of Poplar Bluff MO. She was preceded in death by her father on Feb 19, 2009 and her brother Kevin Fowler on July 2, 1966, as well as her grandparents and many aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her loving husband, Robert Downs, daughters: Margaret Parr of Poplar Bluff, MO and Christina Parr-Goff (Jason) of O’Fallon, MO, mother: Margaret Parker Fowler of Cape Girardeau, MO, siblings: Shelia & Sam Grady of Sikeston MO, Beverly and Les Palmer of Springfield, MO and Mary & Jeff Stoner of Cape Girardeau, MO and one uncle: Jim Fowler of Henson, KY.

Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren, Braxton Goff, Isabella “Bella” Brown, Kelsey Goff, and Nevaeh Parr.

Althea was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church and a registered organ donor.
