Mildred L. York, 85, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Sunday,
Nov. 2, 2014 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.  She
was born Jan. 28, 1929 in Detroit, Mi. to the late Robert
Poplar Bluff.  She was a member of the First Baptist
Mildred married Arthur E. York March 2, 1946 in Poplar
Bluff, Mo.  He survives.
Before retiring she was a manager at the credit bureau.  She
volunteered at the CLC at the First Baptist Church and loved
her family.
She is also survived by two sons, Larry York of The
Woodlawns, Tx., and Dennis Lee York of Anna, Il.; five
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church
followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM.  Rev. Larry
York will officiate.  Burial will be at City Cemetery.

Alice M. Sims, 95, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., died Tuesday,
November 4, 2014, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.
She was born September 23, 1919 to the late Noble Judge
and Hazel Corwin Judge, in Paulding, Ohio. Alice was a
long time resident of Poplar Bluff. She was of the
Pentecostal faith.Alice was married to Robert Hough. He
taking care of her animals, fishing, gardening and
flowers.She is survived by two daughters, Elaine Hough of
Crown Point, Ind. and Deborah Livingston of Poplar Bluff,
Mo.; two sisters, Violet Adams of Texas, and Virginia Sapp
of Ind.; two grandchildren, Jennifer Livingston of Laffyette,
Ind. and Joshua Livingston of Springfield, Mo.; and three
great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Livingston, Moriah
Livingston, and Isaiah Livingston.
Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Corwin
Judge and William Judge; and two sisters, Bessie Kraner
and Phyllis Niedermeyer.  
Alice M. Sims
Samuel F.  Hammonds, 89, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. died
Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Oakdale Care Center of
Poplar Bluff.  He was born March 18, 1925 in Bessemer AL
to the late Samuel Hammonds and Florence Price
Hammonds. Samuel served in the United States Navy during
WWII.  He was a lawyer. He is survived by two sons,
Jeffery Hammonds of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and James Samuel
Hammonds of Charlotte, NC. Service times to be
announced at a later date.

Rosie M. Sullivan, 88, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. died November
12, 2014 at Southeast Health in Cape Girardeau, Mo.  She
was born August 30, 1926 in St. Louis, Mo.  Rosie was a
long time resident of Poplar Bluff.  She was of the Lutheran
faith.She married Hanford Lee Sullivan September 11, 1996
in Paragould, Ar.  He survives. Rosie was a homemaker.  
She enjoyed shopping and her cats and dogs.  A graveside
service will be at 10 A.M. Friday at City Cemetery.

17, 2014 at his residence.  Carl was born November 26,
1957 in Poplar Bluff to the late Raymond Hillis and Gladys
L. Page Hillis.  He was a longtime resident of Poplar Bluff.  
Carl was of the Pentecostal faith.
He married Dinah Groves, April 4, 1975 in Williamsville,
Mo.  She survives.
Carl held a janitorial position at the Nordyne Factory.  He
enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Also surviving is one son, Tim Groves of Fenton, Mo.; one
daughter, Samantha Garrett of Poplar Bluff; one brother,
Tom Hillis of Poplar Bluff; three sisters, Barbara Rommel
and Louise McNamee both of Poplar Bluff, and Betty
Robertson of Williamsville, Mo.; five grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews. Preceding him were three
brothers, Frank Hillis, William Hillis, and Charles Hillis; and
two sisters, Sharon Dunn and Edith Robertson.
A graveside service will be Thursday at City Cemetery at 2
Carl Hillis
Presence, Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Barnes
Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born
January 29, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. She was a member
of Westwood Baptist Church, in Poplar Bluff where she
attended faithfully. She and her family moved to Ellsinore
in 1980. Her 30 year profession as a Headstart Director of
East Carter County District began in 1983. Her passion of
teaching was an impact on young children who now span
the continent.
On November 14, 1964, she and James D. Yancey were
united in marriage. He survives her. To this union three
children were born; James D. Yancey, April A. Yancey,
and Kevin H. Yancey.
Surviving are sons Jim and his wife Gina, and Kevin and
his wife Kara. She is survived by nine grandchildren; Joe,
Nathan, Kerrec, Scott, Tara, Kirsten, Dakota, Lydia, and
Gabriel, and one great grandson, Draedyn. Also surviving;
a sister, Cherree Thomas of Chicago, Illinois, numerous
nieces, nephews and a multitude of beloved friends.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, April Yancey
Lyons, her father and mother; Howard and May Close,
grandparents, two brothers-in-law, two nephews, aunts,
uncles, and a host of dearest friends.
Visitation for friends and family will be Thursday,
December 4th, 12-1 pm at Westwood Baptist Church. A
“Celebration of Her Life” memorial service will immediately
follow, officiated by her pastor, Dr. Steve Proctor. No
graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be
made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital of Memphis,
Tennessee, or her favorite charity this time of year - the
Salvation Army Bell Ringers.
