Jane Rawlings
Jane A. Rawlings, 77, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. died in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
Thurs. Feb. 27, 2014.  She was a long time resident of Poplar Bluff.  
She was born April 11, 1936 in Oherbein, Ind. to the late William C.
Wettschurack and Elsie Arvidsen Wettschurack.
She married James E. Rawling, Dec. 21, 1958 in Oherbein, Ind.  He
preceded her in death.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  Jane was a
member of the Eastern Star, volunteered at the Physicians Park, and
was very active in all aspects of the church.  She loved her family and
She was a nursing instructor at Three Rivers Community College.
Jane is survived by two daughters, Kathra Swift and Selina Beals both
of Louisville, Ky.; and one brother, Ralph Wettscherack of Oherbein,
Ind. and three grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death was one son, Michael E. Rawlings.
Visitation will be Wednesday March 5, 2014 from 5 to 7 P.M. in the
Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home Chapel.  The funeral service will be Thursday
March 6, 2014  at 10:30 A.M. at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home. The Rev.
David Stewart will officiate. Burial will be at Memorial Gardens.  In lieu
of flowers the family request memorials be made to the First United
Methodist Church, 500 North Main St., Poplar Bluff, Mo. 63901 or to
the American Cancer Society,106 Ferrar, Suite 104, Cape Girardeau,
Mo.  63701.
Alice Hill 81, of Wappapello, Mo. passed away Saturday March 1, 2014
with her family at her side. Alice was born Feb. 1,1933 in Naylor, Mo.
worked for several years at the Holiday Inn in Poplar Bluff. In 1981
Alice married Clarence Hill of Iowa and they built their home at Lake
Wappapello. She was a lifetime member of the Eagles Club. Alice loved
being around her kids and grand kids. Alice had one sister and three
brothers Edna and (Bill) Lisenfelder; Samuel and (Bonnie) Littrell; Leroy
and (Deanna) Littrell; Charles and (Betty) Littrell. Preceding Alice in
death were her parents, her husband, her sister Edna, and brothers Sam
and Charlie. Alice's three children survive her and badly miss her:
Daughter Linda and (Ronnie ) Gillihan of Poplar Bluff; son Larry
Stricklin of Wappapello; and daughter Terrie and (Shannon)
Stricklin-Holmes of St. Louis. Alice is also survived by her nephew
Ricky Timbush and many loving grandchildren: Larry Jr., David,
Jimmy, Tyler, Samantha, Amanda, Jason, Stacy, Shawna, Tony,
Timmy and 12 great grandchildren. Alice leaves behind her dog Gizmo,
as well as special friends Jan and Myrtle. Alice was truly loved as a
mom, grandma, aunt and friend. She will be missed.Visitation will be
Friday March 7, 2014 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fitch- Hillis Funeral
Home Chapel.. Funeral Services will be Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in the
Chapel. Rev. Kevin McAnulty will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Zion
Alice M. Hill
Jean L. Parsons
March 7, 2014 in Poplar Bluff.  Jean was born Feb. 8, 1936  in
Hammond, Ind. to the late George and Katherine Stickel.
Jean was a member of the Holy Cross Episcopal Church.  She was a
library clerk at the Poplar Bluff Library.  She loved to read.  Jean
enjoyed arts and crafts.  She was a civic volunteer.  She enjoyed her
church and helping where needed.  She loved her family and life.  
Surviving are two sons, Edward Parsons (Kathryn) of Bellview, Ill.
and William Parsons (Tracy) of Rolla, Mo.; four daughters, Kathryn
Skippers (Marc) of Michigan, Barbara Robinson (Michael) of Poplar
Bluff, Mo., Helen Buller (Levon) of Virginia, Connie Roberson (Kevin)
of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; 15 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one
great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, one daughter, Alice Kay East, preceded her
in death.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10 - 11 A.M. at Holy Cross Episcopal
Church.  The funeral service will follow at 11 A.M. at Holy Cross
Episcopal Church.  The Rev. Annette Joseph will officiate.   
Arrangements are under the direction of Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home.  In
lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Children's  Library Holy
Cross Church Headstart, P.O. Box 6, Winona, Mo. 65588.
Vallie J. Johnson, 96, formerly of Poplar Bluff, died March 7, 2014, in
Festus, Mo.  Vallie was born September 11, 1917 in Tupelo, Miss. to
the late Burley Smith and Martha Lou Clark Smith.  She was a long
time resident of Poplar Bluff, Mo.
She was of the baptist faith.  She worked on the assembley line for
Bussman Fuse Co. before retiring.  She enjoyed buying and selling
She is survived by two sons; Jerry Wilson of Festus, Mo. and Clif
Wilson of Desoto, Mo.; two daughters; Tona Arnold of Poplar Bluff,
Mo. and Betty Fracilla of St. Louis, Mo.; ten grandchildren and many
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Neal Johnson, who died in October 1950.
A visitation will be Tuesday, March 11, 2014 from 10-11 A.M. at
Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home Chapel.  There will be a graveside service at
12 noon, Tuesday, at the Center Hill Cemetery in Fairdealing, Mo.
Vallie J. Johnson
Helen Porter Williams, 87, of Dexter, Mo. left this world on March 21,
2014 of natural causes.  She was born in Poplar Bluff, Mo.  February
25, 1927 to the late Frank and Ellen Porter.  She was a longtime
resident of Poplar Bluff.
She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff and
later attended New Bethel General Baptist Church in Dexter.  She
retired from the Florsheim Shoe Co., where she was known as "Big
Helen".  Later, she worked as a resident guardian with the Butler
County Juvenile Detention Center and was known as "Grandma".
Helen enjoyed exercise classes at 'Curves' in Poplar Bluff with her
many wonderful friends.  She enjoyed cooking for family holidays and
children of all ages, especially babies and toddlers.
She is survived by her children, Mary Ellen Collier of Dexter, Mo. and
Leonard Franklin & Doris (Lawrence) Williams, of Shell Beach, Ca.;
grandchildren, Frankie Helen (McFall) & Darren Spannaus, of Phoenix,
Az.; Kimi Rossomando, Vanessa Williams and Tim Williams; two great
grandchildren, Dane Spannaus and Alex Williams; extended family,
Shelley (Edwards) and Brian McClintock and their families of Dexter,
Mo.; and many nieces and nephews and close friends.
Visitation will be Monday, Mar. 24, 2014 from 9-11 AM. at Fitch-Hillis
Funeral Home Chapel followed by the funeral service at 11 AM.  Rev.
Dean Williams will officiate.  Burial will be at City Cemetery in Poplar
Bluff, Mo.
