Gertrude K. Mureno
Alva Lee Hodge
Gertrude K. Mureno, 78, died July 29, 2013 in Wentzville, Mo.  She was
born August 4, 1934 in Ontario, Or.  She was a longtime resident of
Butler Co.
Gertrude was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Gertrude was
a beloved mother,  grandmother, and friend.  She was a homemaker who
enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, and taking care of her
grandchildren.  She was a Member of the K-C etts and a member of St.
Ann's Society.
She was married to George Mureno Jan. 26, 1957.  He preceded her in
death Aug. 10, 2003.
She is survived by three sons, Tom Mureno and Jennifer Atcliff of
Longview, Tx., Roy Mureno of Mt. Vernon, Wash., John Mureno of
Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two daughters, Angie Norwood and Phillip of Poplar
Bluff, Mo., Amanda Leake and Ray of Wentzville, Mo.; two brothers, Joe
Mollahan of Ontario, Or., Micheal Mollahan of Spokane Valley, Wa., three
sisters, Rose Miller of Melbourne, Fl. Dominica Mollahan of Santa Rose,
calif. Margariet Ollenbrook of Portland, Or.; nine grandchildren, Ashley
Mureno, Brittany Mureno both of Sedro Woolley, Wash., Anthony
Mureno of Portland, Ma., Megan Mureno of Calif., Wyatt Leake of
Wentzville, Mo., Krysten Leake of Columbus, Oh., Ryne Leake of Notre
Dame, Ind., Catie Norwood and Ben Norwood both of Poplar Bluff, Mo.;
one Great-grandchild, Natalye McAfee of Columbus, Oh.
Preceding her in death were her parents, John Mollahan and Catherine
Fitzpatrick Mollahan and one brother, John Mollahan.
Visitation will be Thursday from 5 to 7 PM followed by a Rosary Service
at 7 PM at Fitch Hillis Funeral Home Chapel.  A funeral mass will be
Friday at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  Father Joseph
Kappilumakkal Mathai will be officiating. Memorials may be made to
Sacred Heart Capital Campaign.
Charles Leo Boyer Jr., age 90, a lifetime resident of Poplar Bluff, died
Saturday August 3, 2013 at the Oakdale Care Center. Charles was the son
of Charles Leo Boyer Sr. and Leona Verhouven Boyer of Poplar Bluff,
Mo. He married Novella Welborn November 23, 1946 in Poplar Bluff, Mo.
Mr. Boyer served his country in the  Army Air Corp. He was a  veteran of
both WW II and the Korea.  
He worked as a mail carrier and enjoyed golf and fishing as hobbies.
He  was of the catholic faith and was a member of the Sacred Heart
Mr. Boyer was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.  His
survivors include one son; David Boyer and Nancy of Rancho Cordova,
Ca.; and tow daughters; Ellen Cates and Gary, of Poplar Bluff, Mo., and
Linda Counts also of Poplar Bluff, Mo., Four grandchildren and eight
great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 A.M. to 9:30 A.M. Tuesday, Aug. 6th  at the
Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home Chapel . Funeral services will be at 10 A.M.
Tuesday Aug. 6th at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church .  Father David
Coon officiating. Burial following the service at the Sacred Heart Catholic
Cemetery.  Memorials should be to the Missouri State Veteran's Cemetery.
Joanne England

Alva Lee Hodge, Jr., 74, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013.  He was born Dec.
18, 1938 in Poplar Bluff, Mo.  He was a lifetime resident of Poplar Bluff.  
Alva was of the baptist faith and a member of Grand Ave. Baptist
Church.  He enjoyed fishing, and music as well as raising dogs. Alva lee
spent many years entertaining children  as a  Shrine clown and Santa
Mr. Hodge  was a member of the Poplar Bluff Blue Lodge, Scotish Rite,
Moolah Temple, and the Three Rivers Shrine Club.
Alva Lee is survived by two sons, Rickey Lee Hodge of Benton, Ark., and
Danny Allen Hodge of Wappappello, Mo.; one daughter Susan Marie Hale
of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; one sister Judith Hodge of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; six
grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alva Hodge, Sr. and Sylvia
Barriner Hodge.
Visitation will be Monday, 10 to 11 AM in the Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home
Chapel, with the funeral immediately following at 11 AM..   Rev. Ralph
Mayes will officiate. Burial will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery following the

Ruth Johnson
Ruth E. Johnson, 71 died August 7, 2013 in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Ruth was
born in Morley, Mo. October 20, 1941.She was of the Baptist faith . Ruth
had been a CNA at Bluff Manor Nursing Home.
She is survived by two sons; Billy Wayne Johnson of Dexter, Mo. , and
Mickey Raye Johnson of Silva, Mo.; two daughters, Teresa Wheetly and
Kay Long both of Poplar Bluff, Mo. and 12 grandchildren.
Her husband, Billy C. Johnson preceded her in death January 7, 1983.
Also preceding her in death were her parents Chester Ford and Madline

Mott Ford.
born July 4, 1953 in Poplar Bluff.  He was a lifetime resident of Butler and
Ripley counties.
Mr. Pope was a Native American.  He served in the Airforce.  He worked
in law enforcement.  He was a member of the National Native American
Law Enforement Assoc., Law Against Prohibition, and the St. Francis
River Band of Cherokees.
Mr. Pope was married to Debbie McDaniel August 3, 2007 in Doniphan,
Mo.  She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Bobby Carpenter, Jr. of Doniphan, Mo.,
Daniel Carpenter of Jackson, Tn.; three daughters, Tara Miller, Bethany
Hopp, both of Licking, Mo., and Leslie Pope of St. Louis, Mo.; five
brothers, Mike Pope of Fayette, Mo., Jim Pope of San Francisco, Calif.,
Mark Pope and Darryl Williams both of St. Louis, Mo. and Dean Million
of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Isom L. Pope and Ethyle Ray
Pope, one granddaughter Ava Pope, and one grandson, Evan Douglas
Visitation will be at Fitch-Hillis Funeral Home Chapel, Saturday at 11:00
A.M., followed by the funeral service at 12 noon.   Burial will be at Ash
Hill East Cemetery at Ash Hill, Mo.  Memorials can be made to the
American Cancer Society, 106 Farrar Suite 104, Cape Girardeau, Mo.  
Joanne England, 79, of Poplar Blufff, died August 12, 2013.  Joanne was
born November 30, 1933 in Morehouse, Mo.  She was a longtime
resident of Poplar Bluff.  She was a homemaker and enjoyed playing
She is survived by one son, Arthur Lee England of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two
daughters, Susan Hampton and Jackie Baker both of Poplar Bluff, Mo.;
seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents Jessie Hicks and Lola Mae
Reynolds Hicks.
Edward E. Pertell, Jr., 71, died August 31, 2013.  He was born November
6, 1941 in Chicago, Ill.  He was a longtime resident of Wayne County
Mo.  Before retiring, Mr. Pertell was employed as a fork lift driver.  He
enjoyed hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley.  He was a verteran of the
U.S. Army.
He married Debra Hall December 28, 1970 in Pertersburg, West Virginia.  
She survives.
He is also survived by two sons, David Pertell of Magazine, Ark. and
Joseph Pertell of Greenville, Mo.; five daughters, Chasity Pertell of
Greenvill, Mo., Laurie McCarthy, and Vicky Standridge, both of
Bentonville, Ark., Linda Lee of Magazine, Ark. and Jenelle Pertell of
Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two brothers, Danny Pertell of St. Charles, Ill. and Jim
Pertell of Elgin, Ill.; one sister, Sue Albertson of St. Charles, Ill.; eight
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Edward Pertel, Sr. and Francise
The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date. .
